- A shimmery, pink shade such as OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Clove
- A matte, brown shade such as Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Chocolate Brown
- A darker brown shade such as Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Kitten or FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Bitter Bark
- A skin-coloured shade such as your mineral foundation for smoothing away rough edges
- Optional: A pale shimmery, pink highlight such as OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Platonic
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black or Stellar
Brushes you will need:
- Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush
- Sigma E30 Pencil Brush and/or Sigma E20 Short Shader
- Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush or Sigma E35 White Tapered Blending Brush
- Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush for applying eye liner
Step One: Apply Heavenly Naturals Chubby Cream Eye Shadow in White to your upper eyelid, blending it out with your finger. Make sure you also pull this cream eyeliner down to the inner corner of your eye (for Step Five).
Step Two: On top of the cream eye shadow, use your Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush to apply your shimmery, pink eye shadow across your entire lid. To enhance the vivacity of this colour further, mix with a tiny drop of Heavenly Naturals Mix Drops before applying to your eye lid.
Step Three: Use your Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush or Sigma E35 White Tapered Blending Brush to create a darker crease. Apply your matte brown shade to the outer corner of your eye lid in small circles. Blend this colour across the crease of your eyelid using a windscreen wiper like motion.
Step Four: Using your Sigma E30 Pencil Brush or your Sigma E20 Short Shader, apply your darker brown shade to your upper eyelid, very close to the lash line. The Sigma Short Shader is perfect for this. Using the Sigma Pencil Brush draw this dark brown shade down underneath your lower eyelid as well. Still using your Sigma Pencil Brush, pull the dark brown colour out past the very outer corner of your eye and someway along your crease. Blend well. This darker shade right at the corner of your eye will help to define your eyes a little bit more. If there are any harsh edges remaining, erase them away using a clean fluffy brush and your mineral powder foundation.
Step Five (optional): With a clean Sigma E30 Pencil Brush apply a small amount of pale pink highlight (we use OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Platonic) to the inner corner of your eye, on top of the Heavenly Naturals Chubby Cream Eye Shadow in White. With a soft fluffy brush such as the Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush or Sigma E35 White Tapered Blending Brush, apply this pale pink shade as a brow highlight.
Step Six: Use your Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush to apply Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black or Stellar to your upper and lower water lines.
Step Seven: Apply a couple of coats of your favorite mascara to your lashes and you are ready to go!
Eye products you will need:
- An eye shadow primer such as FaceFront Survival Paint or OCC Skin:Primer
- The Coastal Scents 88 Piece Eye Shadow Palette
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black or Stellar
Brushes you will need:
- Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush or Sigma E35 White Tapered Blending Brush
- Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush
- Sigma E30 Pencil Brush
- Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush for applying eye liner
When using a palette start with your most pale shades across the entire eyelid. Build up to darker colours but only apply darker colours to the outer half of the eyelid. Your darkest shade should only be applied to the very outer corner of your eyelid, and can also be drawn down under your lower eyelid.
Finish the look off with a brow highlight, then lashings of dark eye liner and mascara.
Hint: Use the ‘Shimmer’ palette for evening looks and the ‘matte’ palette for daytime looks.
Tiffany D shows off some fabulous tricks with eye liner. Have you ever learnt how to ‘tightline’? Tiffany will show you how in this informative video tutorial. Use Coastal Scents Gel Liners and a Sigma Small Angle Brush to create the look.
Our most popular shades of Coastal Scents Gel Liners are Stella (charcoal black) and Truffle (dark brown). These colours are great when aiming for a simple look, or to make a vibrant look more dramatic. But try out our more vivid shades such as Tuquoise, Envious and Deep Plum!
Eye products you will need:
- An eye shadow primer such as FaceFront Survival Paint or OCC Skin:Primer
- A shimmery, sky blue eye shadow such as OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Frigid or FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Chromium Sky
- A deep teal green such as OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Nori or for a darker effect use Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Dream Girl or Furious
- Optional: A highlight shade with hints of purple such as Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Bubbles
- A skin-coloured shade such as your mineral foundation for smoothing away rough edges
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Deep Plum
- A vivid purple eye shadow such as FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Weekend Warrier or Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Diva
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black or Stellar
Brushes you will need:
- Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush
- Sigma E30 Pencil Brush
- Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush or Sigma E35 White Tapered Blending Brush
- Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush for applying eye liner
Step One: Apply a thin coat of primer such as our FaceFront Survival Paint or OCC Skin:Primer
Step Two: On top of the primer, use your Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush to apply your shimmery, sky blue eye shadow across your entire lid. To enhance the vivacity of this colour further, mix with a tiny drop of Heavenly Naturals Mix Drops before applying to your eye lid.
Step Three: Using your Sigma E30 Pencil Brush, apply a dark shade to the very outer corner of your eye lid, creating a point that is angled upwards. We have tried this using the following colours which all look fantastic, and are just dependent on the type of look you are trying to achieve: OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Nori or Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Dream Girl or Furious. To blend this colour out, use a clean, dry Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush or Sigma E35 White Tapered Blending Brush to blend the edges of the darker shade pulling a small amount of colour across your upper crease.
Step Four (optional): Still using your Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush or Sigma E35 White Tapered Blending Brush, dip your brush in a tiny amount of duo-chrome iridescent violet (we use Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Bubbles). Blend this into the upper edge of your eye shadow blending out harsh lines as if you do with a highlight shade. If there are any harsh edges remaining, erase them away using a clean fluffy brush and your mineral powder foundation. Using this duo-chrome iridescent violet shade, apply a small dab to the inner corner of your eyes to make your eyes look brighter.
Step Five: Use your Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush to apply Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Deep Plum to your lower lash line. Smudge this out a bit so as not to create too harsh a line. Set this on top (using the same brush) with a small amount of vivid purple eye pigment. We use FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Weekend Warrier or Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Diva.
Step Six: Use your Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush to apply Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black or Stellar to your upper lash line, close to the lashes. Pull a small amount of this down to your lower lash line, on top of the purple, about a third of the way across your lid. You may also want to apply this gel liner to your lower water line.
Step Seven: Apply a coat of your favorite mascara to your lashes and you are ready to go!
I often get asked the question: “Which eye liner brush should I buy? The Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush”?
My response is often a very unqualified “which ever is your personal preference”.
Given this doesn’t really give the customer a lot to go on, I normally follow up with the benefits and additional uses of each brush. Then the customer can normally make a more informed decision. Personally, I swap and change between which of these brushes is my favourite for applying eye liner. I might love one for a few months, and then start using the other again. It really is personal preference….
This is your traditional eye liner brush. With very fine, firm bristles that form a pointed tip. This brush is great for precise application of makeup, which makes it perfect for applying eye liner.
Advantages:
Disadvantages
This brush is your more new age eye liner brush. With fine, firm bristles that are flattened and cut off at an angle. This brush is great for applying makeup along an edge, or for creating straight lines.
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
Hopefully this has given you some more information to think about when making your decision between these two brushes. If you need any more help, or if you have any alternative uses for these brushes, let me know. I’ll update this blog with any further information I obtain in the future!
Eye products you will need:
- An eye shadow primer such as OCC Skin:Primer

- A matte brown eye shadow such as Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Chocolate Brown
- A darker brown eye shadow such as FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Bitter Bark or Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Kitten
- A skin-coloured highlight shade such as Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Posh
- Heavenly Naturals Chubby Cream Eye Shadow in White or Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Silk White
- A white eye shadow such as FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Snow Cone
- A glitter eye pigment such as Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Unicorn Tears, or for something a bit more subtle try FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Sea Salt
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black or Stellar
Brushes you will need:
- Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush
- Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush or Sigma E35 White Tapered Blending Brush
- Sigma E30 Pencil Brush (for application to the lower eye lid a Sigma E20 Short Shader Brush can be used instead)
- Sigma E70 Sigma Medium Angled Shading Brush (optional)
- Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush for applying eye liner
Step One: Apply a thin coat of primer such as our OCC Skin:Primer which can be used on both the face and eyes.
Step Two: On top of the primer, use your Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush to apply your dusky beige / pink colour across your entire lid.
Step Three: Using your Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush, apply your matte brown eye pigment to the very outer corner of your eye lid, and sweep this along your crease.
Step Four: Using your Sigma E30 Pencil Brush, apply your dark brown eye shadow more precisely to your crease, trying not to blend this out too much.
Step Five: Apply brow highlight with your Sigma E70 Sigma Medium Angled Shading Brush. This will also work to soften out the edges of the brown eye shadow. We use Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Posh which is a great highlight shade for many skin tones.
Step Six: Using your Sigma E30 Pencil Brush or your Sigma E20 Short Shader Brush (our preference), apply your matte brown eye shadow on your lower lid close to the lash line. Top this off with your darker brown eye shadow from the centre of your lower lid, to the outer corner. Again make sure this stays very close to your lower lash line.
Step Seven: Apply a white cream eye shadow to your inner tear duct area. Use more product that you normally use in this area to give your eyes a real popping appearance. We prefer to use Heavenly Naturals Chubby Cream Eye Shadow in White but if you have Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Silk White this will work just as well. Apply with your finger or a Concealer Brush. Also apply this white cream eye shadow in a small triangle/wing at the outer corner of your eye lid. With a clean brush, apply FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Snow Cone on top of the cream eye shadow on the inner corner of the eye to set it.
Step Eight: Apply a smudge of glitter adhesive, or eye shadow primer to your eye lid on top of the dusky beige / pink colour and on top of the white triangle at the outer corner of your eye lid. Using your finger, dab the glitter on top of the adhesive. Using a brush, apply glitter also on top of the outer corner triangle.
Step Nine: Using your Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush, add a line of Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black or Stellar to your upper eye lid, very close to the lash line. Create a slight wing at the outer corner above the glitter triangle.
Step Eight: Apply two coats of your favorite mascara to your lashes. For extra fun, add some thick dark false eye lashes.
Eye products you will need:
- An eye shadow primer such as OCC Skin:Primer
- A bright, fushia pink eye shadow such as OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Cherry Bomb
- A bright orange eye shadow such as Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Danger
- A bright yellow eye shadow such as FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Bee Incredible
- A white eye shadow such as FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Sea Salt or Snow Cone
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black or Stellar
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Silk White
Brushes you will need:
- Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush
- Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush or Sigma E35 White Tapered Blending Brush
- Sigma E30 Pencil Brush
- Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush for applying eye liner
Step One: In this look an eye shadow primer is important to ensure a really vibrant look. Apply a thin coat of primer such as our OCC Skin:Primer which can be used on both the face and eyes.
Step Two: On top of the primer, use your Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush to pack on your fusia pink eye shadow (we use OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Cherry Bomb). Apply this all over your lid, from the inner corner, to the outer edge creating a wing.
Step Three: Using the same brush, apply a small amount of your bright orange eye shadow to blend out the upper edge of the pink (we use Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Danger).
Step Four: Using your Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush, apply your bright yellow eye pigment to the very edges of the pink and orange as if applying a highlight shade under your eye brows (we use FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Bee Incredible which is an intense and highly pigmented bright yellow).
Step Five: Make sure your Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush is clean before applying the white. Using upward strokes, apply the white eye shadow to the inner corner of your eye and pull this upwards towards your eye brow. This helps to diffuse the edges of the bright pigments. We use FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Sea Salt or Snow Cone as our white pigment. With this same white shade, apply a small amount right under your eye brows, as a highlight to blend into the edge of the yellow.
Step Six: Use a Sigma E30 Pencil Brush on your lower eye lid. Apply your yellow shade to the inner corner from the tear duct, to about half way along your lower eye lid. Apply the fushia pink from half way along, to the outer corner.
Step Seven: Use a Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush to apply Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black or Stellar to your upper lash line. Apply this from the inner corner of your eye, close to the lash line and across to create a wing at the outer corner. Apply Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Silk White to your lower water line.
Step Eight: Apply two coats of your favorite mascara to both your upper and lower lashes. For extra fun, add some thick dark false eye lashes.
Because this is such a bright eye shadow look, it is important to get the rest of your face right as well. Don’t forget these important steps:
- Make sure you fill in your eye brows which will frame your eye shadow creation. A bit of Heavenly Naturals Eye Brow Tint applied with a Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush does wonders! Check out our recent Handy Hint on creating perfect brows!
- Offset your tropical coloured eyes with a pretty pink lip. OCC Lip Tar is highly pigmented and very long lasting. Try Pageant, Anime, Safety Orange or Strumpet to go with this look, or create a mixture of your own.
- Although bright eyes and bright lips calls for only a very subtle blush shade, it is important to add at least a small amount, so you don’t look washed out from the colour around your eyes and lips. Add a dusting of FaceFront CheekUP Blush Powder to give you a very subtle and healthy glow.
Eye products you will need:
- An eye shadow primer such as OCC Skin:Primer
- Chubby Cream Eye Shadow in White
- A satin white eye shadow such as FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Sea Salt or Snow Cone
- A fawn or skin coloured shade to smooth out the edges. You could use a shade from the Coastal Scents 88 Piece Makeup Palette, or your regular mineral foundation
- A pale blue eye shadow such as OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Frigid or FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Chromium Sky. Alternatively you could use a turquoise colour such as Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Kingdom
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Silk White
Brushes you will need:
- Sigma F70 Concealer Brush
- Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush
- Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush
- Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush for applying eye liner
Step One: Apply a thin coat of eye shadow primer such as our OCC Skin:Primer which can be used on both the face and eyes.
Step Two: Using your finger or a Sigma F70 Concealer Brush, apply Chubby Cream Eye Shadow in White to your eyelid. Start at the very corner of your inner eye and apply right across your lid. Using the Concealer Brush helps you to get right into the corners and close to the lash line. Apply this cream shadow to your inner eye underneath the tear duct area. Take this across your lower eye lid, close to the lash line and blend out well. Use the brush sideways to get in close to the lashes.
Step Three: Pack on your satin white eye shadow on top of the cream base. Use a Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush to apply from the inner corner of your eye and across the crease area. Make sure you also pat this colour on top of the cream shadow that is below your tear duct and lower lash line.
Step Four: Using your Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush, apply your fawn/skin colour shade to the very edges of the white eye shadow (along your brow bone) so that the edges are blended out well. If you have a choice in the shade you apply here, try to choose a matte shade which is slightly darker than your natural skin colour.
Step Five: Again using a Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma E60 Large Shader Brush, apply small amounts of your chosen pale blue or turquoise shade. Apply this to the lower half of your upper eye lid and make sure it blends out nicely into the white. Also apply it to the outer half of your lower lid, close to the lash line.
Step Six: It is your preference whether you use a Sigma E05 EyeLiner Brush or Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush when applying eye liner. Each has their own benefits. Use your favourite brush to apply Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Silk White to your lower water line.
Step Seven: Apply a coat of your favorite mascara. If you are feeling bold, opt for some individual false eye lashes to give you a wide-eyed appearance. If you don’t like to do this yourself, we recommend Lush Lashes who are very professional and apply good quality, long lasting lashes.

Eye products you will need:
- OCC Skin: Primer
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Envious
- Heavenly Naturals Mix Drops
- A silver eye shadow such as OCC Loose Colour Concnetrates in Ironic or FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Heroic or Heavenly Naturals Pure Mineral Eye Shadow in Tinsel
- OCC Loose Colour Concnetrates in Chlorophyll
- Heavenly Naturals Pure Mineral Eye Shadow in Dream Girl
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Platinum (optional)
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black or Stellar
Brushes you will need:
- Sigma SS266/E65 Small Angle Brush
- Sigma SS219/E30 Pencil Brush
- Sigma SS194/F70 Concealer Brush (or another flat paddle brush)
- Sigma SS239/E55 Eye Shading Brush
- Sigma SS275/E70 Medium Angled Shading Brush (optional)
- Sigma SS209/E05 Eye Liner Brush (optional)
Step One: Apply an eye shadow primer such as OCC Skin: Primer to your eyelids.
Step Two: Apply Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Envious using a Sigma SS266/E65 Small Angle Brush, or a Sigma SS219/E30 Pencil Brush, or simply a cotton bud. Apply from the outer corner of the upper eye lid, along the crease to about two thirds of the way along. Blend upwards with a cotton bud or your finger.
Step Three: Mix a drop of Heavenly Naturals Mix Drops with your selected silver eye shadow. Apply this to the bottom half of your upper lid using a small flat eye shadow brush such as the Sigma SS194/F70 Concealer Brush.
Step Four: Using the Sigma SS219/E30 Pencil Brush, apply OCC Loose Colour Concnetrates in Chlorophyll to your crease on top of the green gel liner. Try not to blend this colour into the silver. Be careful to keep a nice wing shape at the outer edge of your upper lid. Do this be applying tape (refer to our recent MissChievous tutorial), or alternatively use eye makeup remover and a cotton bud to create the sharp line.
Step Five: Apply Heavenly Naturals Pure Mineral Eye Shadow in Dream Girl to the upper edge of the green using a Sigma SS239/E55 Eye Shading Brush. Take this from the outer corner (emphasising the wing), in towards the bridge of the nose about three quarters of the way.
Step Six: Take a highlight shade, or your mineral foundation, or an appropriate shade out of the Coastal Scents 88 Piece Makeup Palette. Use any fluffy brush with this skin toned colour to blend out the edges of your eye shadow. We like using the Sigma SS275/E70 Medium Angled Shading Brush because of the angle of the bristles makes it perfect for blending beneath your eye brow. Alternatively, just use the brush dry (without any product on) to blend out the edges of your eye shadow.
Step Seven (optional): Again using your Sigma SS266/E65 Small Angle Brush, apply a line of Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Platinum to the outer corner of your eyelid, to create a wing carrying on the line created by your lower water line. Also apply a small amount to the inner corner of your eye and blend out with your finger. Set this with a touch of your silver eye shadow using your Sigma SS194/F70 Concealer Brush again.
Step Eight: Using your Sigma SS266/E65 Small Angle Brush or Sigma SS209/E05 Eye Liner Brush apply Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black to your upper lash line, close to the lashes. Also apply to the lower waterline and lash line. Go over this on the lower lid only with a Sigma SS219/E30 Pencil Brush and a small amount of OCC Loose Colour Concnetrates in Chlorophyll.
Finally: Apply a coat of your favorite mascara, and you’re ready to go!

- Heavenly Naturals Chubby Cream Eye Shadow in White
- OCC Loose Colour Concnetrates in Nori
- OCC Loose Colour Concnetrates in Wasabi
- Coastal Scents 88 Piece Makeup Palette OR a combination of browns and charcoals such as Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Chocolate Brown and Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Dream Girl
- A shimmery highlight shade for the inner corner of your eye, such as OCC Loose Colour Concnetrates in Lustre or FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Sea Salt

Brushes you will need:
- Sigma SS239 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma SS252 Shader Brush
- Sigma SS224 Tapered Blending Brush
- Sigma SS219 Pencil Brush
- Sigma SS275 Angled Shading Brush
- Sigma SS209 Eye Liner Brush
Step One: Apply an eye shadow primer such as OCC Skin: Primer to your eyelids.
Step Two (optional): Apply a cream eye shadow to your eye lid. We use Heavenly Naturals Chubby Cream Eye Shadow in White. You could use an alternative eye liner or cream eye shadow in a blue or green tone. This should be applied half way up to your crease.
Step Three: Using your Sigma SS239 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma SS252 Shader Brush apply OCC Loose Colour Concnetrates in Nori to your eyelid on top of the primer or cream base. This can be blended right across your eyelid, above the crease line. Start to create a wing shape in the outer edge of your eyelid.
Step Four: Using the other side of the same brush, apply OCC Loose Colour Concnetrates in Wasabi to the very centre of your eyelid, creating a triangle shape and blending this out on either side.
Step Five: Using your Sigma SS224 Tapered Blending Brush, apply a matte brown shade, darker than your skin colour to the edge of the Nori eye shadow, along the crease. You could use Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Chocolate Brown or an appropriate shade out of the Coastal Scents 88 Piece Makeup Palette. Apply with a sweeping motion along the crease. It is very important to use a fluffy brush which applies diffused colour rather than solid colour. Use darker brown or charcoal shades from the Coastal Scents palette in the very outer corner of the eyelid and crease, or use Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Dream Girl as your charcoal shade.
Step Six: Use your Sigma SS219 Pencil Brush to pull a small tint of Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Dream Girl or a darker shade from your Coastal Scents 88 Piece Makeup Palette down under the outer half of your lower lid.
Step Seven: Use your Sigma SS275 Angled Shading Brush to apply a highlight shade to your brow bone, and blend the edges of your eye shadow out on the upper and lower eye lids. Again, use a highlight shade from your Coastal Scents 88 Piece Makeup Palette.
Step Eight: Apply Heavenly Naturals Chubby Cream Eye Shadow in White to the inner corner of your eye and a small amount under the eye brow. Blend each out with your finger. Add a shimmery highlight shade to the inner corner of your eye on top of the cream base. Try using OCC Loose Colour Concnetrates in Lustre or FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Sea Salt.
Step Nine: Use your Sigma SS209 Eye Liner Brush to apply Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black to your upper eye lid, close to your lash line, and to your lower water line.
Finally: Apply a coat of your favorite mascara, and you’re ready to go!

Here’s a great little trick if you find it difficult to get even outer wing lines when applying your eye shadow.

Take a piece of scotch tape (approximately 6-7cm)

After applying your foundation, apply the tape to the edge of your eye. The tape should continue on the same plane as your outer, lower water line and angle up towards your temple.
Check out MissChievou’s Kim Kardashian makeup tutorial in the video below. This is a perfect example of scotch tape being used for this purpose:
Well, it’s October and that means only one thing to me… Halloween parties are on their way! Gone are the days of drab halloween costumes like ghosts, witches and skeletons. How about putting most of your effort into your face, and the costume can then be played down somewhat. Create beautiful fairies and scenery, or less beautiful ghoulish creations.
Some creations are a mix of makeup and water-based coloured makeup paints. To purchase the Tropical palette or Paradise palette that MissChievous uses in a few of her looks, these can be purchased through Mehron, however international orders must be phoned through. Alternatively you could use face paint.
Most of these creations can be made using the Coastal Scents 88 Piece Makeup Palette as your eye shadow. Consider investing in this, rather than individual shadows recommended below. Pale skin can be accomplished through use of the Coastal Scents Contour and Blush Palette, which contains a white powder for highlighting.
Jewells can be purchased from Spotlight, craft stores or beading shops.
Below are some of our favorite creations, with suggestions on the type of products you can use.

TiffanyD shows us how to make our eyes look bigger and brighter, using makeup to trick the eyes:
Achieve these tricks by using the following EyeSpice products:
EyeSpice also has the following tip: Apply white eyeliner to the lower water line. This makes the whites of your eyes look bigger – use Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Silk White
We looooove this eye shadow look. And it can be created with so many different metallic base colours (try pale blues, greens or pinks). Our suggestions are below.
Eye products you will need:
- A silver eye shadow such as Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Tinsel. FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Xenon Zephyr, or OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Ironic
Note: We really love this look using other pale metallic colours instead of silver. Try OCC Loose Colour Concnetrates in Frigid (a beautiful pale blue), Rime (pale green), Clove (a dusky pink) or Glisten (a metallic apricot colour)
- Heavenly Naturals Mix Drops (optional)
- A matte brown such as Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Chocolate Brown (we only use one brown colour whereas xSparkage uses two)
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Indigo Blue (if you change your base colour, you might want to consider changing your gel liner colour too)
- Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Truffle (optional)
Brushes you will need:
- Sigma SS239 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma SS252 Shader Brush
- Sigma SS224 Tapered Blending Brush
- Sigma SS219 Pencil Brush
- Sigma SS275 Angled Shading Brush (optional)
- Sigma SS209 Eye Liner Brush
Step One: Using your Sigma SS239 Eye Shading Brush or Sigma SS252 Shader Brush apply the metallic base shade to your eye lid, from the inner corner, to the outer corner and up above the crease line. To create even more metallic shimmer, mix your base colour with a small amount of Heavenly Naturals Mix Drops. If you add mixing medium, dust a small amount of dry powder in the same shade over top. This provides a good base for blending.
Step Two: Using your Sigma SS224 Tapered Blending Brush, start applying Heavenly Naturals Mineral Eye Pigment in Chocolate Brown in small circles in the very outer corner of your eye lid. Slowly start sweeping the colour from your outer corner, across your crease towards the inner corner of your eye. It is very important to use a fluffy brush which applies diffused colour rather than solid colour. Use your Sigma SS219 Pencil Brush to pull a small tint of the Chocolate Brown colour down under the outer half of your lower lid.
Step Three: Using your Sigma SS209 Eye Liner Brush, apply Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Indigo Blue to your upper eye lid, close to your lash line. Create a small wing at the outer corner of your eye.
Step Four: Using the same (cleaned) Sigma SS209 Eye Liner Brush, apply Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Truffle to your lower lash line, close to the lashes. Take this in towards the inner corner of your eye about two thirds of the way along. Optionally, create a small wing underneath the upper lash line wing in Indigo Blue. If you don’t want to use a second gel liner, apply Indigo Blue instead of Truffle to the lower lash line.
Step Five: Apply a coat of your favorite mascara, and you’re ready to go!

This tutorial shows you how you can enhance your green eyes. To make your green eyes pop, you dress them with colours that contrast with green. These are always colours that lie on the opposite side if the colour wheel from green. Have a read of our recent tutorial introducing the colour wheel. This tutorial will give you a bit of background on colour theory, and how this can be applied to your make up application.
Although the colours in this tutorial work especially well with green eyes, they can in fact be used with any eye colour. The theory is around choosing colours which compliment other colours. You may be wearing green clothing, and want an eye shadow to contrast with this colour. Either way, colour theory works the same. Below are some suggestions of colours to contrast with your green eyes (or your green clothing). Enjoy!

This tutorial will give you a bit of background on colour theory, and how this can be applied to your make up application.
Although the colours in this tutorial work especially well with brown eyes, they can in fact be used with any eye colour. The theory is around choosing colours which compliment other colours. You may be wearing brown, red or orange clothing, and want an eye shadow to contrast with these colours. Either way, colour theory works the same. Below are some suggestions of colours to contrast with your brown eyes (or brown/red/orange clothing). Enjoy!

This tutorial shows you how you can enhance your blue eyes. To make your blue eyes pop, you dress them with colours that contrast with blue. These are always colours that lie on the opposite side if the colour wheel from blue. Have a read of our recent tutorial introducing the colour wheel. This tutorial will give you a bit of background on colour theory, and how this can be applied to your make up application.
Although the colours in this tutorial work especially well with blue eyes, they can in fact be used with any eye colour. The theory is around choosing colours which compliment other colours. You may wearing blue or violet clothing, and want an eye shadow to contrast with these colours. Either way, colour theory works the same. Below are some suggestions of colours to contrast with your blue eyes (or blue/violet clothing). Enjoy!

If you are new to makeup application, or if you are just looking for new ideas and ways to be creative, start using the colour wheel when selecting which eye shadow shades to apply. Colour wheels come in many shapes and forms but this is the one we find most useful. You could search the web for others if this one doesn’t suit you:

If you have access to a colour printer, we suggest you print a colour wheel out so you can keep it in your make up kit. It’s useful when trying to choose colours which compliment or contrast with your clothing, as well as your eyes.
First, lets cover off the basics of colour theory in a nutshell:
- Primary colours are colours which can’t be created from other colours. These are yellow, red and blue
- Secondary colours are created when you mix two primary colours together. These are orange, violet and green
- Tertiary colours are created when you mix a primary colour with the secondary colour next to it on the colour wheel. These are yellow-orange, red-orange, red-violet, blue-violet, blue green and yellow-green.
On the colour wheel above, you have lighter and darker variations of each colour. This is called the tint (adding white) and shade (adding black).
Complimentary colours are those on the opposite side of the colour wheel. For example, green and red, blue and orange, yellow and violet. When these colours are placed next to each other, together they intensify both colours.
The important thing to remember is that you really can wear any eye shadow colours you want. The point of applying colour theory, is to make your eye colour stand out. At the end of the day, we want our eyes to be the focus, not necessarily our eye shadow. You will know that sometimes when you wear a certain colour, people mention how it brings out the colour in your eyes. This is because you are wearing a colour which compliments them (or, a complimentary colour). This is called colour theory and it’s used to enhance colours. In this example we are applying it to our eyes, and we are using our eye make up as our tool.
So, if you have blue eyes and wear colours in the orange, gold, brown family, they will make your eyes look more blue. If you have blue eyes, and you wear blue eye shadow, it is not wrong, it simply won’t have the ‘popping’ effect that you would get if you used a complimentary colour. Similar colours to your eye colour will make your eyes fade out. If you have green eyes, your complimentary colour is red, so tints and shades of red (including pinks and burgandys) will make your green eyes stand out. There are a number of different shades of brown eyes. Those with warm browns, generally have complimentary colours of greens and blues. Have a play around with these colours to see which works best for you. Dark brown/almost black eyes, work well with pretty much every colour – lucky you! Hazel eyes can be fun as they are generally made up of flecks of brown, gold and green. Wearing red toned eye shadows will make the green stand out. Wearing purple toned eye shadows will make the gold stand out, wearing blue toned eye shadows will make the brown stand out. Again, have a play around with these colours to see which looks you prefer.
True complimentary colours should be used as a guide only. In fact, you can choose any colours in the opposite half of the colour wheel, the intensity just won’t be as strong as with the true complimentary colour. Play with tints and shades of complimentary colours, to find which ones work the best with your eyes. But remember to choose appropriately for the occasion. Whether you are aiming for a wearable look, or something a bit more dramatic, we have some suggestions below.
| Eye Colour | Complimentary Colour | Wearable Colours | Dramatic Colours |
| Blue | Orange | Golds, soft browns, greys. Even violets and greens can be worn (try wearing these as a complimentary eye liner colour) | Red, burnt orange and yellow blended together. Fushia pink, bright purples and silvers |
| Green | Red | Earth tones with hints of gold. Apricots and peaches. Golden browns with hints of violet. | Violets, bright purples. Burnt orange and copper shades. |
| Brown | Blue, Green, Violet ranges | Tones of green, blue and violet | Lime greens, pinks, tangerine and bright blue |
After you have selected the complimentary colour you want to use, select colours that sit next to this colour on the colour wheel (up and down, or side to side). These will provide you with good colour matches for blending (lighter colours in the inner corner of your eye, blending to darker colours in the outer corner). For a bit more of a dramatic look, try selecting colours two positions away from your complimentary colour (side to side) on the colour wheel. Or try adding one of these colours as eye liner on your upper lid, close to the lash line. For example, for brown eyes try shades of light green blending to darker green in the outer corners. Add a line of light blue or light violet to the upper lash line.
To add even more complexity, consider your clothing colour in your colour selections. Try to keep eye colour and clothing in the same colour family (for example, for brown eyes try different tints and shades of green for your clothing and eye shadow). If you are really trying to make a statement with your eye shadow, you could intentially choose to wear clothing in the same colour as your eyes, to compliment your eye shadow instead. The simple option is to wear black! But it’s always nice to team black with a splash of colour. This will work well if you match this splash of colour to your eye shadow colour.

Throughout July and August, we asked you to send in an image of an eye shadow look that you would like to learn how to create. The person with the winning entry would have their chosen look made into a tutorial, and they would win all of the products used to create it!
Nicki from Christchurch sent us this image, and we LOVE it! Congratulations Nicki, all the products listed on this page are on their way to you.
Create this look using EyeSpice Products
Face products you will need:
- Heavenly Naturals Pure Mineral Foundation in a shade suitable to your skin colour
- FaceFront CheekUP Blush Powder in Afundadoodle or a shade suitable to your skin colour
- OCC Lip Tar in Hush or Conquest
Eye products you will need:
- The base colour is FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Julie’s Revenge
- For the crease colour, use either FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Death By Rubies (for a darker crease), or OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Cherry Bomb (for the pink colour shown in the photo – but be very light-handed with this colour as it can be very intense)
- Also use OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Glisten
- For the inner corner highlight use OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Platonic
- We recommend using Heavenly Naturals Mix Drops with the inner corner highlight colour, but this is optional
- As an eye liner, use Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black
Brushes you will need:
- Sigma SS150 Large Powder Brush, or Sigma SS182 Buffer Brush
- Sigma SS239 Eye Shading Brush
- Sigma SS224 Tapered Blending Brush
- Sigma SS219 Pencil Brush
- Sigma SS266 Small Angle Brush or Sigma SS209 Eye Liner Brush
- Sigma SS187 Duo-Fibre Brush (optional)
Step One (Base): Apply Heavenly Naturals Pure Mineral Foundation with a Sigma SS150 Large Powder Brush, or Sigma SS182 Buffer Brush. As this look has a large amount of colour around the eyes, you want to make sure your skin is buffed to a very smooth finish to ensure any imperfections are well camouflaged. Buff in an egg beater like motion. Don’t be afraid of intense motion. The more you buff, the more luminous your face will appear, as buffing creates more even coverage.
Step Two (Eyes): As an optional step, apply your eye shadow base. We use FaceFront Survival Paint. Because the products used in this tutorial are so vibrant and long lasting, it is not imperitive that you use a base prior to applying.
Step Three (Eyes): Using your Sigma SS239 Eye Shading Brush, apply FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Julie’s Revenge to the lid, from the crease down.
Step Four (Eyes): If you want a darker crease colour to give your eyes more depth, use FaceFront Paint Me Perfect in Death By Rubies for your crease colour. If you want to create the look exactly as it is in this image, use OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Cherry Bomb. Apply your crease colour with a Sigma SS224 Tapered Blending Brush. Apply a very small amount at a time, and build up to the required depth. Apply in small circles at the outer corner of your eye then sweep the brush in a windscreen wiper like motion across your crease. Use a Sigma SS219 Pencil Brush to bring this crease colour from the outer corner, down under your eye too.
Step Five (Eyes): To diffuse the edges of the eye pigment, apply a small amount of OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Glisten. Blend this out well around the edges of your upper and lower lid with your Sigma SS224 Tapered Blending Brush.
Step Six (Eyes): Using your Sigma SS219 Pencil Brush, apply a dab of OCC Loose Colour Concentrates inPlatonic to the inner corner of your eye. Pull this colour up to blend into the upper lid, and pull it down across the inner half of the bottom lid. To create more depth here, dip your brush in a drop of Heavenly Naturals Mix Drops, and then into your inner corner highlight colour. Apply this directly underneath the inner corner of your eye to create a very bright-eyed appearance.
Step Seven (Eyes): Using your Sigma SS266 Small Angle Brush or Sigma SS209 Eye Liner Brush, apply Coastal Scents Gel Liner in True Black to both your upper and lower water line.
Step Eight (Eyes): Apply two coats of your favorite mascara, and your eyes are done!
Step Nine (Cheeks): Using either your powder foundation brush, or a Sigma SS187 Duo-Fibre Brush, apply FaceFront CheekUP Blush Powder in Afundadoodle to the apples of your cheeks, and then pull the colour up towards your temples.
Step Ten (Lips): Using your Sigma SS209 Eye or Lip Liner Brush, apply OCC Lip Tar in Hush or Conquest to your lips.
This tutorial is for a full face of makeup. The products used in this tutorial represent a good set of products to have in your makeup bag for any occasion. For something more wearable for the day time, try swapping the strong colours used in this tutorial, out for greys, silvers, browns or golds. The techniques used in application remain the same, just the colours differ. To help you in determining what colours you should use, have a look at our upcoming blogs related to eye colour, and the best shades to mix together in one look.
There is not a lot we would change with this particular chosen look. One thing that could be done to top the look off perfectly, would be to create a slightly darker and nicely shaped eye brow. For more information on this, have a read of our recent blog showing how to create perfect brows. Isn’t it funny that you didn’t notice the eye brows when you first looked at the image, but now that we have pointed it out to you, it’s hard NOT to notice. It’s one of those things. Once you start to perfect your own eye brows, you will notice those of others immediately!
Have fun creating this look, and thanks again Nicki for an original, vibrant competition entry.
