Product Review – All that Glitters…

Saturday, June 19th, 2010 In Blog, Product Review / No Comments

Heavenly Naturals Glitter Eye Shadows and Glitter Eye Liner are a fantastic way to finish off your make up by adding a touch of glamor to your eye shadow, or a hint of sparkle to your lips!

Glitter

Heavenly Naturals Glitter Eyeliner in Disco Ball is great applied to the upper eye lid, close to the lash line. It’s like adding jewelery to your eyes!

Heavenly Naturals Glitter Eye Pigment can be used alone or on top of other make up products.  It can be used on your eyes, or you lips.

When used on your eyes:

  • Add a touch of glitter on top of your finished eye make up. Apply with a brush, or directly with your finger. To help the glitter stick, apply with a small amount of mixing medium.  We use Heavenly Naturals Mix Drops.
  • For extreme vibrancy, use Glitter Eye Pigment on it’s own. Mix with a drop of mixing medium, to ensure good coverage.  Simply wet your brush with Mix Drops, dip in the glitter eye shadow and apply to your lids.

When used on your lips:

  • After applying your lipstick, press some Glitter Eye Pigment to your lips. If you want to add some extra shine put a light coat of lip gloss over top of the glitter. You will be dazzeling!
  • Add some Glitter Eye Pigment to some of your favorite lip gloss to add some glam!

Whatever the occasion. A party, coffee with the girls or to add some sparkle in the office, these glitters are the latest hit of the season and will provide you with all the sparkle you need!

OCC Lip Tar – Product Review

Monday, June 7th, 2010 In Blog, Product Review / No Comments

OCC Lip Tar NSFW

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar is arguably the most versatile lip stick you can get. The standard off the shelf colours are bright and vibrant, but you can also make almost any colour you want, by mixing them. This is great if you want to match the colour of an item of clothing! With just 2 Lip Tars, you can wear them on their own, or mix them in varying quantities to create a multitude of colours. We have shown you some of our favourites below.

When mixing your Lip Tars together, we recommend getting a small jar to hold your chosen mix. Lip Tars take a long time to dry out when they are outside of the tube, so you will be able to use your mix over and over again. Add a few drops of each colour (or more of less depending on the colour you are trying to achieve). Mix the selected colours with your lip brush, or any other implement you have handy for mixing with.

Empty Mixing Pot

OCC Lip Tars are extremely pigmented. This is great because a little goes a very long way. But they can also be unforgiving if you make a mistake in your application. We recommend preparing your lips beforehand, to make sure your application looks picture perfect. While washing your face, gently exfoliate your lips with your standard face exfoliation product. This gets rid of all the dead skin cells which would otherwise give your lips an uneven appearance. Moisturize your lips liberally with a lip conditioner product. After applying your liquid and powder foundation, apply your Lip Tar with a lip brush, starting with the edge, and working your way in. We use the Sigma SS209 extra fine tipped brush.

Sigma SS209 Thin Tipped Brush

Your brush will need a good clean after applying your Lip Tar. Use a good quality shampoo in the palm of your hand. Hold the brush tip down so the water does not get up into the metal rim. After cleaning, leave somewhere flat to dry.

When the time comes to remove your Lip Tar, wipe excess product off with a tissue first. For any left overs, use a good quality makeup remover, baby oil, petroleum jelly or cold cream. Apply to your lips then wipe gently with a soft wash cloth or a tissue.

Most of all, have fun with your Lip Tar, and get creative. Here are some of our favourite colour combinations:

Eye Shadow Primer – FaceFront Survival Paint

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010 In Blog, Handy Hints, Product Review / No Comments

A lot of people think Eye Shadow Primer is simply a base for you to apply eye shadow on top of.  Giving your eye shadow a longer life, and getting rid of unsightly creases. But there is more to it than just this…..
In this blog we showcase FaceFront Survival Paint, which is our chosen eye shadow primer. We’ll show you how best to get optimal results from your primer. Here are some simple hints and tips you might not be aware of:
  • The tendency is to coat your eyelid with primer. In reality you should use it sparingly, applying only enough for a very thin application
  • Survival paint works best if you apply it to your lid, and then leave it for a minute or two to dry before applying your shadow over top.
  • Although Survival Paint gives you more life out of your eyeshadow, how well it works does still depend on the quality of the eyeshadow you are using. Make sure you use a quality eyeshadow brand on top.
  • Some people prefer to use primer only on the lower half of their upper lid (from the crease down). This gives the effect of a vibrant eyeshadow on your lid, fading to a less vibrant, powdery shade above the crease. Try applying 2 layers of eyeshadow when applying your primer this way. The first layer over top of the primer (on the lower half of your lid), and the second layer over the entire lid.
  • Although primer is mainly used to increase the life of your eyeshadow, it is also great to make your eyeshadow appear more vibrant. Similar to mixing it with Mix Drops before applying. Shimmery eye shadows in particular, benefit from a layer of primer prior to application. This really brings out the effect of the eye shadow.
  • FaceFront Survival Paint is actually an eye and brow primer. This product is great on your brows too! It can be used on it’s own, to tame unruly brows, or prior to the application of Eye Brow Tint to make your brow colour last longer.
  • Try gently applying a small amount of FaceFront Survival Paint to the lower lash line with a brush, prior to applying pigment to this area. This gives the pigment something to stick too, and can aid in reducing the amount of fall out you experience from applying powders to this area. The primer base makes it much easier to apply eye shadow to your lower lash line (especially if you have long lower lashes)!

Heavenly Naturals Mix Drops – Product Review

Friday, April 23rd, 2010 In Blog, Product Review / No Comments

HN Mix Drops SquareHeavenly Naturals Mix Drops are a gel like substance which can be used as a mixing medium when applying your makeup. Mixing mediums give your makeup more depth and therefore more colour. Particularly for use with eye shadow, but mixing mediums can be used with other makeup products too. Try mixing a small amount with your powder concealer, or powder foundation to form a paste. This can then be applied directly to pigment marks and spots to ensure they are covered.

Mixing medium is perfect for use with your base eye shadow colour. The wetter texture helps the powder to stick to your skin, and to create a thicker base layer. This makes your eye shadow really stand out. Use with shimmery eye shadows to give a truly metallic appearance.

Following your base coat, finish the look off using your darker crease colour with a dry brush. Blend your crease colour into the base colour to create a diffused look.

Mix Drops also allow you more precise application and defined lines. Try using them with darker eye shadow shades to create eye liners. Apply with a thin tipped Sigma SS266 small angled brush or Sigma SS209 eyeliner brush to your upper eyelid, close to the lashes. No need to buy separate makeup products!

Below are some swatches showing selected EyeSpice eye shadows both with, and without Heavenly Naturals Mix Drops used. See what a difference it makes!

The below video from xSparkage reviews the OCC Lip Tar products and demonstrates the best way to use them. This gives your lips a fuller impression. We think you will really enjoy using these products!
